Criminal Records

In the past week or so I've been doing some digging on the NIL's in general terms. I read in another article something about most N's having criminal records of some kind in their past. So- I used to be an investigative reporter and made use of some old connections out of curiosity to run some checks. The N's are not clean- not surprising as I'd already been aware of several things told to me by NBSIL in the past.
I wanted to post my findings but also want to be as vague as possible. I was disturbed to find records of several incidents that were taken to court over the past ten years against the company headed by NFIL, indeed three cases were against NFIL himself for fraud and verbal attacks on others. Two of the cases were closed, however another one remained open to this day.
 One of DH's family members (extended) is listed on the official sex offender registry for illegal possession of child pornography. (gross)
The NBIL's are not without criminal records as well. Theft, violence, illegal substance abuse were all listed offences on police records.
 I eventually stopped researching because of the feeling of 'yuck' I was getting from reading about them. One thing is clear though, the N's are not without their secrets. There are legal problems still facing some of them with recent court cases throughout '12 and are still ongoing.
 Part of me wishes I had never found out about much of this but the other part is thankful- thankful to add only more reasons to my long list of why it's a GOOD thing they will never see me again.

  1. I've never believed ignorance is bliss. I'd have dug for this information too. If they knew you'd found out, they'd probably claim that they've already "repented" and that you should leave the past in the past. But we all know they haven't done a damn thing except bury this stuff where they'd hoped no one would ever find it.

    People like this don't change. Good on you for doing some digging, even if it made you uncomfortable.

  2. When you found several criminal complaints against the NILs, the first word that popped into my head was "sociopaths"!! Have copied and pasted the DSM-IV criteria for sociopathology below:

    ************************
    DSM-IV-TR
    The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth edition (DSM IV-TR), defines antisocial personality disorder (in Axis II Cluster B) as:
    A) a pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of the rights of others occurring since age 15 years, as indicated by three or more of the following:
    -failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that are grounds for arrest;
    -deception, as indicated by repeatedly lying, use of aliases, or conning others for personal profit or pleasure;
    -impulsiveness or failure to plan ahead;
    irritability and aggressiveness, as indicated by repeated physical fights or assaults;
    -reckless disregard for safety of self or others;
    -consistent irresponsibility, as indicated by repeated failure to sustain consistent work behavior or honor financial obligations;
    -lack of remorse, as indicated by being indifferent to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another;
    B) The individual is at least age 18 years.
    C) There is evidence of conduct disorder with onset before age 15 years.
    D) The occurrence of antisocial behavior is not exclusively during the course of schizophrenia or a manic episode.
    ************************************

    There's also something referred to as a "reputation defending anti-social" (Theodore Milton's sub-types). This subtype contains strong narcissistic features. Am guessing that your NILs may have some over-laps in their behavior that would qualify as sociopathic. Seems that once someone is diagnosed with a PD, there are clusters of subtypes of PDs that are commonly found together. An example would be the frequent overlaps between borderline and narcissist. By, the way, if you have any doubt about the prevalence of sociopathology within the general population, there is a book called The Sociopath Next Door that was written by a Harvard psychiatrist. That author shows how many sociopaths live among us. Scary.

    Finally, need to state that every human being that walks this green earth occasionally has behaviors that could occasionally qualify as narcissistic and borderline. One of the things that separates normal (occasional) narcissistic human behavior from pathological narcissistic behavior is the prevalence of the behavior. If "narcissism" seems to be someone's baseline personality, then the next question needs to be whether or not that person has insight into their behavior and whether or not they have the ability to feel genuine remorse. If it had to be boiled down further, my textbooks have said that the rule of thumb to follow as a differentiating factor is whether or not that person has enough insight to feel remorse. If they simply cannot step into another person's shoes and always believe they are right, well then, they are probably narcissists.
